[WEEK 1] 1/20-1/24

MON: MLK Day. No school.

TUES: Ms. T. showed her "About Me" PowerPoint. She then started going through the Syllabus, up to the CHAMPS rules. She explained how to add to the "About Me" drawing, fill everything out, get parent signatures, and color the assignment, and allowed about 15 minutes for the students to work on the assignment in class.

WEDS: Today, we finished going over the Syllabus, and a copy was handed out. Ms. T. then demonstrated how to do Sketch #1 and allowed students to work. Sketch #1 is due today at the end of the class period. Anyone who finishes early was told to work on their "About Me" Work Sheet.

THURS: Today, Ms. T. reviewed due dates, and what we learned yesterday. We discussed how to choose a good theme, and why we always start drawing in pencil first. She then handed out Sketchbook Folder paper, explained how to fold it in half, where to write your name and hour (inside top right corner), and students had the remainder of the hour to draw on their covers. We will be spending about a week and a half on this project, so we will only be drawing for the next couple of days. Homework tonight: study for your syllabus quiz tomorrow and finish your "About Me" work sheet!

FRI: You will have about 5 minutes to look over your study guide and turn in your "About Me" work sheet (if you forgot it, still bring it Monday, please). We will then be taking the Syllabus QuizMs. T. also allowed students to connect to Class Dojo (she displayed the class code) and Remind101 (@h4a7befe4k is the code).

[WEEK 2] 1/27-1/31

MON: Ms. T. assigned seats today, then told us to put our table number on the top right corner of the inside of our folders. She then showed how to staple the pocket in our sketchbooks (example is on the board). We were reminded of the drawing requirements and told that we could start coloring in colored pencil today. We will discuss gradients/shading in class tomorrow. At the end of class, Ms. T. reminded us which art cabinet to put our art folder in (labeled hour and table number).

TUES: Today, Ms. T. demonstrated how to color a gradient with colored pencil on Sketch #2. She then gave students the entire class period to finish the assignment. If they finished early, they worked on their Sketchbook Folders. Anyone ready to color, could start coloring today, using gradients in their work. (2nd hour, 8th graders were doing schedules with the Mott counselors. Sketch #2 is due for them tomorrow.)

WEDS: Ms. T. reviewed gradients from yesterday. In 2nd hour, Ms. T. assigned Sketch #2 to the 8th graders that were scheduling yesterday (due at the end of class today). She then demonstrated how to use a light source in Sketch #3. This assignment is due for all students at the end of the class period. We then worked on sketchbook folders for the remainder of the hour, using gradients and light sources in our work.

THURS: Today, Ms. T. reminded the class where to find the due date, project requirements, and rubber bands in the classroom. She said that students may start taking projects home if they are behind (especially if they haven't started coloring yet). Students may take their project after class, or stop by at the end of the school day. After these announcements, we had the remainder of class to color our projects.

FRI:

**If you are behind on your Sketchbook Folder, feel free to stop by the art room, roll up your project with a rubber band, and take it home over the weekend, in order to get caught up. Please have it with you in class on Monday! The project is due at the end of class on Tuesday.**

[WEEK 3] 2/3-2/7

MON: Today, we had the entire class period to work on Sketchbook Folder Projects.

TUES: Today, you have the entire class period to complete your Sketchbook Folder Project. It is due at the end of the class period (the end of the school day is considered on time). An example rubric will be displayed and handed out. Both sides will be filled out, it should be put into your sketchbook folder pocket, and your folder should be turned into your hour's bin. 10% is deducted per day assignments are turned in late, and there will not be class time to work on it tomorrow, since we are starting a new project.

WEDS: Today, Ms. Taube handed out Sketch #4-5 work sheet and introduced the Plaster Mask Project. We went through the PowerPoint and took notes on Sketch #4, which should be finished by the end of class today. We then had the rest of the class period to work on Sketch #5. You will have a little more time in class tomorrow to complete the assignment.

THURS: Today, Ms. T. went over common mistakes that she saw with the Sketchbook Rubric and gave students the opportunity to correct their mistakes. Ms. T. handed out cardboard and base masks. When finished with the Sketch #4-5 work sheet, students were told to put them under their mask, on their cardboard, and find a spot on the counter to keep their Plaster Mask Project. Any students that were finished with everything were told to free draw, work on an art contest, do homework from another class, or read a book.

FRI: Today, Ms. T. demonstrated how to change the positive space of the base mask, using modeling clay. She also showed how to build different types of textures, using the clay. Ms. T. handed out clay to the students, to begin building their masks. We went over sink rules at the end of class.

[WEEK 4] 2/10-2/14

She also passed around the "mask decorations wish list" binder while students worked today.
