[WEEK 1] 9/3-9/6

MON: Labor Day. No school.

TUES: 6th grade meeting with WEB all day. "About Ms. Taube" PowerPoint. Syllabus Quiz and the parent signature on your "All About Me" Handout will be on/due Friday. Begin brainstorming your idea for your first project, your Sketchbook Folder Project (due on Sept. 20th for hours 1-3, Sept. 23rd for hours 4-6, due to the half day on the 20th.).

WEDS: 7th grade meeting is during the majority of 3rd hour today. Review "About Ms. Taube" PowerPoint from yesterday. Begin going over syllabus. Reminder about syllabus quiz Friday. "All About Me" Handout is passed out. Students had about 10-20 minutes to work on it at the end of class today, then took it home.

THURS: 8th grade meeting is during the majority of 3rd hour today. Finish going over the syllabus and reviewing for the quiz tomorrow. Ms. T. handed out Class Dojo QR codes. After reviewing, she then demonstrated how to do the Sketch #1: Sketchbook Folder Practice assignment. There should be plenty of time to finish, but it is due tomorrow in case students need a little more time.

FRI: "All About Me" and Sketch #1 handouts are due. Take the Syllabus Quiz. Students may begin working on their Sketchbook Folder Projects afterward.

[WEEK 2] 9/9-9/13

MON: Today, we graded the Syllabus Quiz as a class. We then had the remainder of the class to draw on our Sketchbook Folders.

TUES: Today, Ms. T. demonstrated "common mistakes" that she sees in the Sketchbook Project and how to use a horizon line. Students then had the remainder of the hour to draw.

WEDS: Today Ms. T. gave out seating charts. She then demonstrated how to do a gradient for students that were ready to color today. The students then had the remainder of the hour to work on their Sketchbook Folders. Open House is after school today from 6-8.

THURS: Ms. T. reviewed the demonstration from yesterday and handed out Sketch #2 so that the students could practice. The students then worked on Sketch #2, and continued working on their Sketchbook Folder after. 

FRI: Sketch #2 is due at the end of the class period today. The students were told to finish this, turn it in, and continue working on their Sketchbook Folders afterwards. They were also told that if they have not started coloring yet, they may take their project home over the weekend to work on.

[WEEK 3] 9/16-9/20

MON: Ms. T. reminded students that they should not be finished yet, but they also should not be just starting to color yet. She reminded absent students to turn in their Sketch #2 that was due Friday. Students re-took Syllabus Quizzes if asked. The entire hour was dedicated to coloring Sketchbook Folders today.

TUES: Continue coloring Sketchbooks.

WEDS: Continue coloring Sketchbooks.

THURS: Ms. T. projected and demonstrated filling out the Sketchbook Rubric. If students were finished today, they could put their rubric in their Sketchbook pocket and turn it in today. Any students finished must read, do homework from another class, or free draw.

FRI: Half day, hours 1-3. Sketchbook Folders and Rubrics are due at the end of the class period today for hours 1-3 (Monday for hours 4-6).

[WEEK 4] 9/23-9/27

MON: 

Hours 1-3 were handed out Sketch #4: "The Scream" Notes, which is due at the end of the class period today. We watched 3 YouTube videos, discussed them after, and took notes on them. Ms. T. then handed out the Sketch #5-7 Packet: One-Point Perspective. We did Sketch #5 together (this should be finished today). Ms. T. then demonstrated how to do the rectangles in Sketch #6, and we had time to work on that portion for the remainder of the hour.

Hours 4-6 have the class period to finish their Sketchbook Folders and Rubrics.

TUES: 

Hours 1-3 are reviewing what we did yesterday. Ms. T. will demonstrate the remainder of the shapes on Sketch #6, and students will have time to finish.

WEDS: 

Hours 1-3 are finishing Sketch #6 and starting Sketch #7. The packet is due by the end of the class, but should only take about 5-10 minutes to finish. The Sketch #8-10 Packet: Oil Pastel Techniques and Rough Draft was then handed out. The techniques in Sketch #8 were demonstrated, two at a time, then students had time to try on their own. (Oil pastels are $2.10 at Meijer, if students want to purchase their own pack.) We discussed sink rules and how to keep the oil pastels organized.

Hours 4-6 are doing what hours 1-3 did yesterday.

THURS: 

Hours 1-3 reviewed what we did yesterday, and were given some time to finish Sketch #8. Then, Ms. T. demonstrated Sketch #9, and students worked on that assignment.

FRI: 

Hours 1-3 finished Sketch #9. Ms. T. then demonstrated how to start drawing the rough draft (Sketch #10). A Remind101 message was sent out, so that 8th grade students at the court assembly today were reminded to take their packet home over the weekend if needed.

Hours 4-6 are doing what hours 1-3 did yesterday.

[WEEK 5] 9/30-10/4

MON: 

Hours 1-3 are finishing their Sketch #8-10 Packets, which are due at the end of the class period. If finished early, students may work on homework, read, free draw, the Illustrating America contest, or a flag drawing for Mrs. Stanton's bulletin board. Any free draw done in class are extra credit!

Hours 4-6 are doing what hours 1-3 did Friday.

TUES: 

Hours 1-3 are getting their "Scream" Project final draft paper today. We will be working on this for a couple of weeks, so students should only be drawing this week.

Hours 4-6 are doing what hours 1-3 did yesterday.

WEDS: All hours will be drawing their "Scream" Project today.

THURS: Continuing to work on the "Scream" Project.

FRI: Continuing to work on the "Scream" Project.

[WEEK 6] 10/7-10/11

MON: Continuing to work on the "Scream" Project.

TUES: Continuing to work on the "Scream" Project. Ms. T. demonstrated how to color bricks and provided a student example of what is expected/project requirements. She also announced that the project is due next Tuesday for all hours. If you are on track, you should be near the beginning of coloring today. If you are still drawing, you are behind. If you are finished coloring, you are working too quickly.

WEDS: Continue to color your "Scream" Project.

THURS: Continue to color your "Scream" Project.

FRI: Continue to color your "Scream" Project. Take your project home over the weekend if you are falling behind. Oil pastels are $2.10 at Meijer if you need to purchase your own.

[WEEK 7] 10/14-10/18

MON: Continue to color your "Scream" Project.

TUES: Finish coloring your "Scream" Project and filling out both sides of your rubric. The "Scream" Project and Rubric are due at the end of the class period/school day. When finished, you must work on something productive such as a flag, yearbook cover idea, Illustrating America contest, homework from another class, reading a book, free draw, or a treasure box drawing.

WEDS: Introduction to Surrealism Ceiling Tile Project. Sketch #11-12: Surrealism Notes and Ideas was handed out today. We filled in the blanks on Sketch #11 together as a class, while going through the Surrealism PowerPoint. Then, students were given about 15 minutes to begin drawing their ideas on Sketch #12 in pencil.

THURS: Today, we will review what we discussed yesterday. Then, students will have the remainder of the class period to finish Sketch #12. The Sketch #11-12 Handout is due at the end of the class period today.

FRI: Today, Ms. T. is assigning project partners. You will take your best idea from Sketch #12 and combine them to make a new surrealism drawing. This is your Surrealism Ceiling Tile Rough Draft.

[WEEK 8] 10/21-10/25

MON: Continue working on your Ceiling Tile Rough Draft. Ms. T. will also assign you a place in the classroom to keep your ceiling tile.

TUES: Continue to work on your Ceiling Tile Rough Draft. When finished, you will transfer your idea to the actual Ceiling Tile Project. We are not starting to paint today. Anyone finished early will trace and cut out hands for a bulletin board for Mrs. Stanton.

WEDS: Today you should be in the middle of or finishing drawing on your Ceiling Tile.

THURS: Today, Ms. T. introduced paint. She demonstrated how to paint a gradient, went over clean up rules, and gave tips on painting. If you are finished drawing on your ceiling tile today, you may start painting.

FRI: Today, everyone should be painting on their tile, in order to be on track. Ms. T. will briefly review what we talked about yesterday, and you will paint for the remainder of the class period.

[WEEK 9] 10/28-11/1

MON: Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles.

TUES: Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles. Ms. T. reminded students of the due date, and all of the activities at the end of the week; manage time wisely knowing what class time you will be missing. Ceiling Tiles cannot be taken home for homework. If you are behind, you will need to work during your lunch in the art classroom.

WEDS: Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles.

THURS: Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles. Zombie Crawl is today, so 8th graders will miss 2nd hour, 7th will miss 3rd, and 6th graders won't miss any art today.

FRI: Half day, hours 1-3. The Pep Assembly is today. 6th graders will not miss any art class, 7th graders will miss 2nd hour, and 8th graders will miss 3rd hour. Locker clean out is also today, so 8th graders will miss 10 minutes of 1st hour, 6th will miss 10 minutes of 2nd hour, and 7th graders will miss 10 minutes of 3rd hour. Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles. Due to all of these activities, Ms. T. is extending the due date until Wednesday next week.

[WEEK 10] 11/4-11/8

MON: Today, we are finishing painting the ceiling tiles. If you finish early, you will be working on an "American Education Poster Contest" Poster.

TUES: No school today- Election Day!

WEDS: Today, we continued painting the ceiling tiles. Ms. T. displayed explained, and handed out the Ceiling Tile Group Rubrics. Ceiling Tiles and Group Rubrics must be finished by the end of the class period. If you are behind, you and your partner will have to get caught up during your lunch periods. Anyone ahead will work on the posters that we started Monday. Directions and requirements are listed on the board. 

THURS: Posters were handed out to students that did not get them already. The requirements on the board were explained. Some students were pulled aside to touch up parts of their ceiling tiles. Students drew on their posters the entire class period.

FRI: Continue drawing posters. They may be taken home over the weekend, if you are behind.

[WEEK 11] 11/11-11/15

MON: Today, you have the class period to finish your "American Education Poster Contest" Poster.

TUES: Snow day!

WEDS: No school- transportation issue. 

THURS: Sketch #13-14 was handed out today. We then watched a video on Roy Lichtenstein (link is on the handout). During the video, Ms. T. came around to speak to students with missing posters. Sketch #13 should be done before you leave today (Ms. T. collected them).

FRI: Half day, hours 4-6. 

4th hour: Finished the Roy Lichtenstein video. We then reviewed what we learned. Students were told to finish Sketch #13 if they hadn't already. We then watched the first half of the Andy Warhol video and started filling out Sketch #14. The worksheet was collected at the end of class. 

6th hour: Finished the Roy Lichtenstein video. We then reviewed what we learned. The Roy Lichtenstein PSAT Article was then explained, projected, and handed out. Students had 5-10 minutes to complete the 3 questions. We then watched the first 20 minutes of the Andy Warhold video, and began filling out Sketch #14.

[WEEK 12] 11/18-11/22

MON: 

1st-3rd hours: Today, the Roy Lichtenstein PSAT Article was then explained, projected, and handed out. Students had 5-10 minutes to complete the 3 questions. We then finished the Roy Lichtenstein video, reviewed what we learned, and students were told to finish Sketch #13 if they hadn't already. We then watched the first 20 minutes of the Andy Warhol video and started filling out Sketch #14.

4th hour: Today, the Roy Lichtenstein PSAT Article was then explained, projected, and handed out. Students had 5-10 minutes to complete the 3 questions. We then finished the last 30 minutes of the Andy Warhol video, and reviewed it as a class. Sketch #14 is due at the end of class today. In the last 3 minutes of class, students were told to get answers from their neighbors if they missed anything.

6th hour: We finished the last 30 minutes of the Andy Warhol video, reviewed it as a class, and turned in Sketch #14Sketch #15/18 was then handed out. We began filling out Sketch #15 as we started to go through the Pop Art PowerPoint.

4th-6th hour: We finished going through the Pop Art PowerPoint and filling out Sketch #15. Ms. T. demonstrated how to start Sketch #18, and how to check off the requirements listed on the side as you work. You will have one more day in class to finish this assignment.

WEDS: Today, we have the computer cart, and we are Editing Celebrity Photos. These should be emailed to Ms. T. by the end of the day (A Remind101 message was sent out that this is homework if you did not finish in class. Click the button below to download the directions.)

1st-3rd hour: We finished going through the Pop Art PowerPoint and filling out Sketch #15. Ms. T. demonstrated how to start Sketch #18, and how to check off the requirements listed on the side as you work. You will have one more day in class to finish this assignment. 

4th-6th hour: Today, the Sketch #15 (Pop Art Notes) and #19 (Pop Art Word Design) Handout was due at the end of class. Students had the entire class period to finish Sketch #19 and get any notes that they missed from a neighbor.

4th-6th hour: Today, Ms. T. handed out the Sketch #16 (Outline Values)/#17 (Plot Dots) Handout. She demonstrated Sketch #16, then students had time to work. When most students were finished, she then demonstrated Sketch #17, and left both assignments projected while students worked. Sketch #20 (Color Scheme) was handed out in the last 5-6 minutes, for students who were finished with their Sketch #16-17. All three assignments are due on Monday.

[WEEK 13] 11/25-11/29

MON: 

1st-3rd hours: Today, we will do what hours 4-6 did on Friday.

4th-6th hours: Today, you will be given a few minutes to finish Sketch #16/17 and Sketch #20 from Friday. Then, Sketch #18 (Transfer and Connect Dots) will be demonstrated, handed out, and students will have time to work. This will be due next Monday.

Parent teacher conferences are 5-8.

TUES: 

1st-3rd hour: Today, we will do what hours 4-6 did yesterday.

4th-6th hour: No class. Half day hours 1-3.

Parent teacher conferences are 12:30-3 and 5-8.

WEDS: No school- Thanksgiving break.

THURS: No school- Thanksgiving break.

FRI: No school- Thanksgiving break.

[WEEK 14] 12/2-12/6

MON: Ms. T. reviewed the steps of the Pop Art Project and demonstrated how to do Sketch #18 again. Students then had the rest of the class period to work. Sketch #18 is due at the end of class today.

TUES: No School.

WEDS: Today, Ms. T. handed out final draft paper for the Pop Art Celebrity Project and demonstrated how to grid it by 1 1/2 inches.

THURS: Ms. T. handed out celebrity photos and reviewed how to outline values, and plot dots. She then walked around the classroom approving Step 1 of the project, and handing out transparencies and tape. If you are on track, you should be plotting dots on your transparency in sharpie by the end of class today.

FRI: Ms. T. reviewed the steps of the Pop Art Celebrity Project on the "Project Steps" board. Students then continued to work on their projects. If you are on track, you should be plotting dots by the end of class today.

[WEEK 15] 12/9-12/13

MON: Continue working on the drawing portion of your Pop Art Celebrity Project.

TUES: Ms. T. reviewed the steps of the project. She then explained that, when you are done drawing your celebrity, to raise your hand for approval before erasing your grid, labeling, and dots. She then showed an example from 1st hour. After, you will begin drawing your pop art word design. Work on homework, read, free draw, or work on one of the 2 contests, if you are ahead on your work. We will begin painting later in the week. If you are on track with your project today, you should be near the end of transferring your dots, connecting them, or erasing your grid today.

WEDS: Today, we continued drawing the Pop Art Celebrity Project.

FRI: Today, Ms. T. reviewed how to paint the celebrity, using Sketch #20: the value scale. Students who finished drawing their celebrities and backgrounds began painting their projects. We also discussed the drying racks, and reviewed painting rules. Mr. Kennedy dropped off 12 more, square-shaped ceiling tiles (the counseling offices want tiles too). This is an extra credit opportunity for students who finish their projects early. You may take your project home over the weekend (stop by any time if you are waiting for the project to dry first), but please be prepared and on time on Monday!

[WEEK 16] 12/16-12/20

MON: Ms. T. made announcements about the project due date, movie day before break, the art show, and told students that they should either be finishing their background or painting today. Any students who are behind, should be taking their project home to get caught up on the drawing portion.

TUES: Continue painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project.

WEDS: Continue painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project. The "Night with the Arts" Show is tonight from 6-7:30. 

THURS: Movie day for hours 4-6, if they have earned it! Hours 1-3 will continue painting their projects.

FRI: Half day, hours 1-3. Movie day for hours that have earned it! Any class is welcome to get their project to work on over break if you are behind. You will have a couple days to work on the project when we return, we will review for midterms, and take the midterm. The last day of 2-D Art is January 16th for hours 1-3 and January 17th for hours 4-6.

[WEEK 17] 1/6-1/10

Holiday Break 12/21-1/5.

MON: Ms. T. will review the project steps. You will then have the whole class period to finish painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project. 

TUES: Continue painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project.

WEDS: Continue painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project.

THURS: Today is the last day that you should be painting your Pop Art Celebrity Project, so that you can outline your project in black, fine point sharpie and fill out your rubric tomorrow. Ms. T. demonstrated how to fill out the rubric today, left it projected, and handed it out to students.    

FRI: Pop Art Celebrity Project is due at the end of the class period. You will staple your rubric, value scale, celebrity photo, and project together, then turn it into the turn in bin.

[WEEK 18] 1/13-1/17

MON: We will fill out the Midterm Study Guide as a class today.

TUES: Today, we will be playing review BINGO for the Midterm tomorrow. 

WEDS: You will have 5 minutes to look over your Study Guide and ask any questions about the midterm. An announcement will then be made to turn in your Study Guide. You will have the remainder of the class period to take your Art Midterm Exam. 

THURS: Last day of 2-D Art class for hours 1-3. Hours 1-3 will have a movie day today, if they have earned it. Hours 4-6 will have a catch up day. 

FRI: Half day, hours 4-6. Last day of 2-D Art class. Last day that any work will be accepted for semester Hours 4-6 will have a movie day today, if they have earned it.
